I am deeply disappointed by my experience at this location. This morning, I brought a neighbor in need to their food pantry during the advertised hours, which began at 9:30 AM. We arrived on time, but by 9:40 AM, they were still closed. I called to confirm whether they were opening. The gentleman who answered said they were running behind and would open shortly. The doors finally opened at 9:48 AM.

Upon opening, the gentleman I spoke to on the phone directed us to the area by a metal gate, saying that’s where the food giveaway takes place. When I approached the door, it had a "closed" sign taped to it, so I stood back and waited. Once the sign was removed, I followed the initial directions and tried to go inside. At this point, another man (a white man) immediately began yelling at me, saying, "YOU DON'T COME IN HERE, GET OUT! YOU WAIT OUTSIDE." His tone and behavior were completely unnecessary and demeaning.

As someone involved in community outreach through my job, I was shocked by his blatant lack of respect and abuse of authority. I told him that he had no right to treat anyone that way and to not speak to me like that. Instead of correcting his behavior, he continued yelling at me, repeating, "GET OUT OF MY WAY!" At one point, after I complied with his instructions to stand back, he came to set a table near me and yelled again, "GET OUT OF MY WAY AGAIN!" It was all so unnecessary and extremely mean.

This experience left me deeply saddened and disturbed, especially when I think about how vulnerable people might feel being treated with such cruelty in such a difficult moment. When I tried to address the issue with another staff member, she seemed more focused on making excuses for his behavior than addressing it. My neighbor and I were so taken aback by this treatment that we ended up leaving without her being able to get the food assistance she needed.

If you have the option to seek help elsewhere, I strongly recommend doing so. The staff at this location lack the respect and empathy necessary to assist those in need. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, especially during vulnerable moments, and this location fell far short of that standard.
