Just started my treatment. Great place with really nice staff. Fantastic cafeteria near main lobby with great vegetarian food (it is a Seventh Day Adventist hospital)…I will be happy here. Outside has cool statues too.

It has been 10 years this month since my 89 year old husband was treated successfully at Loma Linda. His PSA tests, etc., are well within normal range as of recent exam. I write this because our 3rd son who is not yet 60, recently was diagnosed early with prostrate cancer and who has also successfully received treatment at Loma Linda. Loma Linda doesn’t “treat” prostrate cancer….they cure it.

My experience with the staff at this facility was just awful.
I sent my MRI results to them for review and was told a few days later that my Brain Tumor needed to be biopsied prior to a decision on Proton Surgery. Understandably I asked "why' because doing a biopsy of the brain is much the same as the surgical option, which rather defeats the whole point of Proton Therapy.
I have consulted with a Radiologists and a Neuro Surgeon locally and also 3 other Proton Center's ...all of whom agreed that taking a biopsy is not an option, regardless of whether I opt for surgery, Stereotactic Radiation or Proton Beam.
When I explained this to Peggy at Loma Linda she told me she didn't know why Dr Loredo had opted to biopsy. Again I asked Peggy why and she said she had no medical training and couldn't help me. I asked to speak to a member of the Doctor's staff and was told I would get a call back, that was three weeks ago and I've heard nothing.
My concern is did Dr Loredo see something on the MRI that five other specialists have missed ? Peggy told me this would be discussed at consultation at their clinic, I reminded her that I am disabled and that I only want to travel when absolutely necessary, as I live maybe a thousand miles from their facility.
I said if it was a case of wanting to collect the consultation fee, I'd be happy to pay that over the phone. Her reply was 'we don't do phone consults'. I reminded her that this is a brain tumor and they will gain nothing more from a physical consult than they already have with my reports, MRI Discs and history.
As you can imagine this put me off using the facility in the future. I went to great expense to send the discs and reports for review. Only to have their opinion given to me by someone with no medical training who wasn't able to explain the medical reasoning behind their diagnosis.
This is serious stuff, just dealing with a brain tumor is extremely stressful. This facility & Dr Loredo compounded that stress by not giving me the reason behind their diagnosis.
