From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for a treat. The Black Bear exceeded all expectations with its incredible food and warm ambiance. We started with the French Toasts, which was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. For the main course, the waiter JJ recommended steaks was a standout—perfectly cooked, with a balance of spices that left us wanting more. The milkshake was the perfect ending, rich and indulgent without being overly sweet. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the chef’s expertise was evident in every bite. The portion sizes were generous, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality. We highly recommend BlackBear to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Coming to the Madera’s Black Bear Diner location is a weekend treat for me, friends, and family that come along! This is the first Black Bear location that I’ve dined at, and it’s my favorite out of the many I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Driving all the way from Fresno, just to enjoy the great food and service that the Madera location has to offer.

What draws us back is the atmosphere, the homestyle vibe of the place and the fun bear themes of the decor. The amazing, friendly staff that greets you at the door, checking up on your table of family and guests making sure everything is to our satisfaction. When you eat here, you don’t feel like you’re just an average customer, you’re part of the black bear family and get treated as such.

Each visit, I make it a point to try as many different menu items as possible to get the most out of my visits. I can honestly say, I’ve been keeping track and everything I’ve tried has been delicious, upholding the quality and freshness of each dish. There has never been a dish I haven’t liked, even with a picky palette that some of the family have haha.

Great big shout out to Jerry, JJ, Ray, Christa, Christina, Kara, Kim, Charity, Zuly, Stephanie, Jennifer, and Mercedes among the rest of the staff members/cooks that have made each experience dining at Black Bear Diner a memorable one. We have much love, respect, and appreciation for all they do at the Madera location and will continue our weekend tradition of dining here. A great spot for the whole family with amazing food at an amazing price. Thank you for all you do for us and the community Madera’s Black Bear Diner!! 🐻🐾❤️

We visited this diner while on holiday from Europe, eager to experience a classic American diner breakfast, and it did not disappoint! The portions were huge, just as we expected, and the food was really good. The service was also great, friendly and attentive. We were tempted to try their famous pies, but after indulging in so much delicious food, we couldn’t handle the extra calories! 😂 A wonderful diner experience overall, and we’d definitely recommend it for anyone wanting a true American breakfast. 🥞🥓🍳🍽️

Before work this morning, I placed an online order at this location to be picked up at 8:15 a.m. I ended up arriving a little early and so I headed to the door dash pick up area. When I arrived there was an older lady at the register who ignored me and went to tend to some tables. A young man who was very nice ended up trying to assist me and he let me know that they were still cooking my food. As soon as the older lady who had ignored me saw me talking to him she came over and asked him what he was doing then she asked for the name on the order. I gave her my name and then she said “here’s your coffee,” as if I wanted to stand there and hold an ice cold cup of coffee while waiting on my food. She then walked away and came back over to me and asked to see my online order receipt. I pulled it up and let her know that it was the same name that I had already given her and that I would not try to steal food from black bear diner. She then tried to clean her comment up and said “I never said you were but you have to look at the rest of the world,” and then she walked away. I’m highly insulted because I would have no way of knowing the name on my order to have given it to her the first time she asked. Then she had the audacity to ask again, as if I came in to steal a take out order. Considering the fact that I am an African-American woman I consider the doubling down very prejudicial and I will not subject myself to prejudice when I’m spending my money. The nerve. Get it together Black Bear of Madera. We all aren’t thieves.

Another follow up: I did speak to the owner of Black Bear Diner Madera and she was great with this. Not once did she doubt that I was telling the truth even though the employee has worked there for years. She spoke to the employee and the employee reached out and apologized for “prejudging” me. She said it will never happen again. Although I will not be back to this location, I would give the Fresno location a chance as it is owned by the same person. The owner should not have to pay for the bad character of her employees. Thank you again Amy.

Nice food, huge portions. You can triple your calorie intake for a week with one breakfast here I guess!😇 Staff is very kind and patient, the place has a good vibe too.

Came down to meet with employee who works remotely from Madera. Place was clean and orderly, not too noisy and staff was fast and friendly! Menu selection was great. I was able to eat, have my meeting and enjoy my visit. Prices reasonable. Definitely a recommend for breakfast or lunch!
