We never would have stopped by until I saw a kitty in the window! Being a crazy cat lady, I had to stop and check it out. We were immediately greeted by a friendly senior lady who gave us a short history of the building, which is so beautiful. And then immediately swarmed with sweet kitties that we were allowed to pet. We browsed around and ended up finding a local art piece to purchase. Turns out owner, Janet, also runs a rescue (hence the cats and dogs)! There is a strong smell of litter boxes, but as am owner of many cats and dogs, I understand and didn't ruin our experience at all. Janet filled us in on some of the local pieces available for purchase and we also got to meet the sweet basset hounds. I think a lot of these reviews are unfair and judged Applegate Drugstore too harshly. Janet didn't seem "weird or mean", she was very friendly to us. But frankly I wouldn't blame her. She runs a rescue and when you do that you see the worst in people when you save animals, so I wouldn't like people either, lol. Give this place a shot. Donate to the rescue. If you love cats and dogs, you'll get it.

All of these reviews are very unfair. I’m not sure why everyone says the woman is rude, she was super kind to me….but I think as long as you READ THE SIGNS when you enter, you shouldn’t have any problems. I think it’s common sense to not chase the cats, common sense to leave the dogs alone…this is not a PETTING ZOO it is a BUSINESS. I adopted my cat from here and haven’t had any problems. The owner has been very kind and helpful.

Very confusing experience. Clearly a beautiful building with significant historical importance that is being used for unclear purposes. One example: litter boxes and cats in the display cabinets. When my group walked in the elderly woman at the front was very nice but the younger woman was very off putting. The only words uttered by her whilst we were," Don't pet that cat it bites." The smell of cat urine is overwhelming as soon as you walk in and seems to be a health hazard. It is unclear if it is a cat sanctuary, thrift store, or antique store. There is a lot of potential but clearly none of the people involved in the running know what they want it to be.

The owner’s attitude matches all the “do not touch” signs in the store. Happily let a kind elderly couple pet her cats, but yelled at my girls.

Such a strange experience. We were greeted at the front door by several basset hounds and some cats. My first thought was that I was walking into some sort of animal rescue or pet store. I was taken aback by the woman who acted as if I was overstepping bounds by petting one of the animals. The animal BTW didn’t seem to mind. I was surprised to see that this is actually a store selling non-pet related Arkansas made items like art and local honey. Great concept in a super cool old drug store, but I was really put off by the smell of the place. It smelled like I had just walked into a crazy cat lady’s home and I couldn’t even enjoy the historical significance of the building. Mostly I can’t understand why a business open to the public would have animals running around if they expect the general public to NOT touch the animals and the basic general concept of the business has nothing to do with animals.

Weird lady was in my face as soon as I walked in for not have a mask on. l turned around and walked out. If you're so worried about germs, why do you have 5 cats walking all over everything in the store? Their paws were just in a litter box. There's another similar store to the left and around the corner that is very friendly as you exit this dump.

There were masks displayed in the front of the store so my group and I went in to grab them and a weird lady ran to the door to keep it closed yelling at us that we need masks. Like obviously we were getting ready to grab them. She was rude the entire time and ruined any fun experience that was possible. I thought maybe she was having a bad day, but I see from the other comments that this is a common theme. Not sure why she’s working there if she hates people so much

god forbid you want to look at the animals, you’ll get yelled and and given attitude for any questions you ask, lady must constantly be in a bad mood after looking through the reviews, imagine having cats for sale and not making any effort to sell them! only reason you should go is to save those poor cats from the negativity radiating off that place. peace!
